1. In Residence 6 (Stereo)
In Residence 6 focuses specifically on the rain soaked month spent at the Espy Foundation residency in Oysterville, WA, October 2007. Using the steady drone of the constant rain as a point of departure, the work explores the emotional response to this prolonged period of rain through the construction of a melancholic and meditative narrative.
The audio work presented here is an abridged stereo version of the original 4.1 dolby surround installation presented at Las Cienegas Projects in Los Angeles, CA July 25 – September 5, 2009. The cover image is a cropped still from the accompanying video portion of the installation.
Thanks to Robert Crouch, Amy Thoner, Steven Hull, Samuel Kashani, and Scott Lawrimore.
- Reviews
In Residence 6 (Stereo) is a companion to the previously released, and absolutely wonderful, In Residence. This abridged stereo addendum to the release and Dolby surround installation is a deeply beautiful 19 minute slice of beauty. A perfect example of drifting, utterly serene texture and sound it’s one of those pieces that clicked for me straight away. After a trademark long fade in with a high frequency sound it soon develops into a truly angelic chord and soundscape that’s all about subtlety and depth. It slowly adds and subtracts elements yet remains in an almost static state throughout with almost imperceptible shifts of tone. I’m only giving you one sample of it because, frankly, that’s all you really need. When you hear it you’ll know immediately whether you love it or not and you know what? I think you will as it’s absolutely gorgeous.
