In Stage, Yann Novak creates a site specific installation in response to the Burien Art Gallery’s built-in cabinetry that resembles a stage. Utilizing a recording of the last 8 minutes prior to a performance as a point of departure, Novak explores feeling of stage fright and the release of that fear throughout the duration of a performance. By taking advantage of the control that site specific sound installations provides, Novak presents this piece as an impossible “performance,” free of interruption or imperfection do to his fear of public performance.
